Ready or Not 2: Here I Come
Plot Synopsis:
Picking up right where the first film left off, Grace (played by Samara Weaving) unwittingly finds herself in a new game of Hide and Seek that was triggered by her survival at the end of the first movie. However, this time, she is being hunted by the most powerful families in the world, and she must not only keep herself alive, but also her estranged sister (played by Kathryn Newton).
Positives:
I think this movie's greatest strength is its cast. As usual, Samara Weaving is excellent. But, I also love the new additions. As I already mentioned, you have Kathryn Newton. I also love the additions of Elijah Wood and Sarah Michelle Gellar. The chemistry between Samara Weaving and Kathryn Newton really works. The two of them are the heart of the movie, and they really work off each other well. I am somebody that very much likes Radio Silence's style as horror filmmakers. So, a lot of the humor really works for me. In particular, there's a scene involving pepper spray that had me dying laughing. The kills are pretty gnarly too. You do get those signature Radio Silence blood explosions. But, I also appreciate the fact that this movie offers a little more variety in the kills too.
Mixed:
There are a couple of things that I feel are going to be "your mileage may vary" aspects. One is the expanded lore. Because you are given exposition to explain of these elements, some people might think it bogs the movie down a bit too much, and I can absolutely see where those complaints come from. The other thing that should be worth mentioning is that can be seen as more of what we got in the first film. If you just want more, then I think you'll laregely like the movie. If you wanted something completely different, then I don't think this sequel's going to be for you.
Negatives:
This movie is 108 minutes long, and I do think it drags a little in spots. Honestly, if you shave 10 minutes off of this movie, then it's a perfect length. As much as I like the chemistry between Samara Weaving and Kathryn Newton, they do a lot of arguing. At least one of these arguments happens after they make up. At that point, it feels redundant.
Final Thoughts:
Do I think this movie is as good as the first film? No. But, I do think it was still largely a fun ride.
My Rating:
