Sharks of the Corn
Plot Synopsis:
In a midwestern town, sharks begin appearing and eating people in a cornfield. Meanwhile, a local sheriff is trying to uncover the mystery involving a recently apprehended serial killer who murders his victims with a set of shark jaws, and also is a part of a shark cult who believe that an ancient shark goddess will return and transform people into "sharkanoids."
Negatives:
I feel like for a movie like this, I need to start with the things that don't work first. Okay, the main thing that I think simultaneously holds this movie back and works in its favor is the budget (which I'll get into in the positives section). This is a no-budget movie. I mean, the guy working the camera clearly has a shark puppet on his hands while he's moving with the camera. The acting is bad all around. When they need to show dismembered body parts, they literally use fake limbs that you could buy from a Halloween store. When a character dies, more often than not, they just have the actor lying down with red dye all over them. Honestly, some of the lines here and there could be pretty groan-worthy. Of course, as I already mentioned, these actors aren't exactly award winners either.
Positives:
Perhaps the greatest compliment I can give to Sharks of the Corn is that it is absolutely, unintentionally hilarious. I mean it, While watching this movie, I was never entirely sure just how self-aware the movie was. There's definitely a little bit of self-awareness, considering the movie has some on the nose winks and nods to Jaws. Other than that, I honestly could not tell you. There are literally scenes where the actors are doing things they clearly do not know how to do. I can also say this movie did not go the way I was expecting. I mean, even describing the movie's plot synopsis doesn't do it full justice. As bad as most of the acting is, The one actor who genuinely seems like he's having the most fun is the guy who plays the serial killer. There are legitimate points in this movie where he is just making random faces, and it's so entertaining. I mentioned that this movie obviously was low budget, and I don't think this movie would have even been half as entertaining as it was if the budget was there. I mean, this makes Sharknado look like a blockbuster by comparison.
Final Thoughts:
If you are a fan of Z-grade trash that was probably thrown together in a weekend, I highly recommend this movie. It is easily one of the best examples I can think of. I also recommend this movie if you want to get a group of people together to riff on something, this is perfect for that too. I sincerely hope this movie can go down in history with the likes of Troll 2, Birdemic, and The Room as a prime example of a so-bad-it's-good movie.

I am actually going to give this two ratings, one for its actual quality, and one for its entertainment value
