Night Teeth

Image
Plot Synopsis: College student Benny fills in for his brother as a driver one night. Over the course of the night, he finds himself driving two attractive women to various spots. Things take a turn when these women turn out to be vampires. Now, Benny finds himself in the middle of a bloody power struggle. Positives: Director Adam Randall injects the movie with some visual style. The best way I could describe this movie is cool. The cast is solid all around. In particular, I really like Alfie Allen as the movie's villain. Victor as an antagonist has a pretty relatable motive. He's sick of not having power, and just wants to be respected. While I'm at it, I should also give some props to Lucy Fry. She's pretty damn good as someone who's clearly a little unhinged, but is also having the time of her life. The movie also has pretty solid pacing. It's a little under two hours, but it moves pretty quickly. Finally, I really dig the way this movie uses L.A. as a setting...

A Nightmare on Elm Street

Plot Synopsis: When her friends start mysteriously dying in their sleep, Nancy decides to get to the bottom of what's happening. This will lead her going head to head with the villainous Freddy Krueger.  Positives:  OK, so my first positive is Freddy Krueger himself. I love everything about the character in this movie. It's easy to see why Freddy became such an iconic villain. Between his look. But, perhaps the biggest props need to go to Robert Englund and his performance. Speaking of characters, I love Nancy as a final girl. She's smart and capable, and actually really easy to root for. On that note, I also really adore Heather Langenkamp's performance. The basic idea of a dream-based killer leads to some pretty creative death scenes. Wes Craven adds some great atmosphere to his direction as well. This movie has so many iconic scenes. I mean if you just show an image from this movie to someone, there's a good chance they'll know it's from A Nightmare on El...

Seance

Image
Plot Synopsis: A new student at an all-girls boarding school joins a group of popular girls in performing a seance. Before too long, the girls start ending up dead. This causes them to wonder what exactly they may have awakened.  Positives:  I can safely say I didn't necessarily know what direction this movie was always going to take. I do also want to compliment Suki Waterhouse in the lead role. She actually does a pretty good job in making me want to root for her. For the most part, I actually think the characters have just enough dimension to them. They aren't overly deep or complex, but I wouldn't call them paper thin either. Mixed Aspects:  As far as the elements I'm mixed on, I really only have one. At its core, Seance is a slasher movie. Yeah, I have pretty mixed feelings on the kills. A couple of them are pretty memorable and gruesome in just the right way for me. Most of them don't really do much to stand out as being anything particularly memorable. They...
