Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives

Image
Plot Synopsis:  In an effort to make sure Jason Voorhees is truly dead, Tommy Jarvis unwittingly resurrects the dead serial killer. From there, Jason is back to his old habits of slaughtering camp counselors.  Positives: The first thing I want to highlight in terms of the positives is the movie's tone. This is one of the earlier examples of a meta horror film, and it actually kind of works for me. Adding to that point a little bit, this is a movie that knows what kind of movie it is and really embraces that. I also think this movie has a better version of Tommy Jarvis than the previous film. This film still has something of a PTSD angle with the character, but he's a lot more active by comparison. Now, I can't talk about this movie without talking about Jason himself. C.J. Graham is one of my favorite iterations of Jason. The other thing I like is the element of having an operational summer camp. It adds a level of tension this franchise doesn't go for very often. Plot Synopsis: Three families find themselves on a beach that begins to make them age rapidly. From there, they must try and unravel the mystery of what is happening to them.  Positives: I did enjoy some of the performances in the movie. In particular, I liked Thomasin McKenzie as an eleven-year-old trapped in a teenager's body. Rufus Sewell and Ken Leung are in the film, and they are both actors I just enjoy seeing whenever they pop up in a movie. There are a couple of horrific moments that are actually quite effective. The one that stands out involves a couple of characters in a cave near the end of the movie.  Mixed Aspects: There's one element that stands out to me in this regard: the twist. I had a good feeling pretty quickly as to what the movie's twist was going to be. Now, it didn't go exactly how I was expecting, but it was pretty damn close. Negatives:  The biggest thing I had an issue with in this movie was the characters. This is something M. Night Shyamalan...

A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge

Image
Plot Synopsis: Five years after the events of the first film, Jesse and his family have moved into the Elm Street house. Before long, Jesse begins having nightmares involving Freddy Krueger, who wants to possess Jesse and kill people outside of the dream world. Positives:  Starting things out with the positives, I actually do like this movie's approach in terms of following a final guy instead of a final girl( even if there is also technically a final girl). Once again, I really do have to sing the praises of Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger. Adding to that a little bit, I kind of like that this version of Freddy is a little bit darker. He's not quite as jokey as he was in the first movie or some of the later sequels. Aside from Robert Englund, I also think Mark Patton is pretty good as Jesse. I suppose I should also say that re-watching this movie, I also do like Jesse as a character. I like that he's so different than Nancy. While he's no Wes Craven, I do think Jack S...
