An American Werewolf in Paris

Image
I remember seeing bits and pieces of  An American Werewolf in Paris  when I was a kid. I hadn't really seen enough of it to truly piece any thoughts together. But, it was a movie I was curious to watch all the way through. The movie was released in 1997. I kind of knew going in that it wasn't going to hold a candle to the original. I think what really drew my attention to the film was seeing that it had a Rotten Tomatoes score of 7%. After watching the film, I was left with the feeling of "um, I don't think it's that bad." Don't get me wrong, this movie had some problems. By comparison to the first film, the effects here are so much worse. To this day, I feel as though the first movie's practical effects still hold up pretty well.  Paris  opted for CGI instead. I can't really speak to how it looked in '97, but looking at these effects in 2021, they do not look good. There were plenty of moments where I had some fun. The humor in the film actual...

Warning Signs

So, this is a story I wrote for a fiction writing class in early 2020. I figured this blog was a good place to post this story.  Warning Signs “I found him like that.”   The man looked at his daughter, a little bit confused. She looked back at him with her gigantic green eyes. Had it not been for the mud and dirt all over her, he might have thought she looked like a doll. It seemed like the dirt that smothered her covered her natural perfection. When he looked at her, he felt as though he was looking into her mother’s eyes. His attention reverted back to Whiskers, her pet hamster, and then back to his daughter once again. He wasn’t entirely sure how to take these particular words. She almost sounded like she was telling him the truth. Finally, something escaped his mouth.   “What were you doing with him?” At first glance, a moment like this wouldn’t raise any alarms. It was common for a child to want to bury their pet after they discover it dead. But, it was the exa...

2020 Horror Movies I Saw Ranked

#10: Fantasy Island : I was interested in Fantasy Island purely out of interest in a bad movie. Had the entire thing been like the final act, this movie might not be in last place. However, the first hour is just a boring kind of bad to me, while the last half hour was the entertaining mess I was wanting this whole movie to be.   #9: The Grudge : The main thing The Grudge had going for it was an R rating. This was one of the very few films in the franchise to actually embrace gore. The actual plot and structure is where this movie just falls flat for me. There is very little else about it that stands out in any real meaningful way.  #8: You Should Have Left : This is one of those movies where I described it as the wrong kind of insane for me. The best way I could describe it as boring, which is not how I should describe this movie. The reason I don’t have this any lower is the lead performances by Kevin Bacon and Amanda Seyfried. #7: Deep Blue Sea 3 : From here on, I enjo...
